Snoring is caused by friction in the throat by your tongue being sucked back into your throat, as you breath this creates the noise known as snoring.
What is Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (O.S.A)?
Snoring can progress into a condition known as Obstructive Sleep Apnoea, where the tongue is completely sucked against the back of the throat and blocks breathing. This can decrease blood flow and air flow to the brain which can result in a rush of adrenaline, being woken up by several large gasps to get fresh air and an increased heart rate. This can happen hundreds of time a night leaving the sleep without restorative sleep. OSA has been linked to an increased risk of: hypertension, higher blood pressure, strokes, cardiovascular disorders, depression, impotence, reflux/heartburn, obesity, diabetes and memory problems
What are the symptoms of snoring?
