• Carefully follow the instructions on the shampoo bottle. Some shampoos require to be left on for a few minutes before rinsing and some must not be left on the scalp
• Use shampoo twice a week
• If scalp problems persist, try alternating shampoos with different active ingredients
• If there is inflammation on the scalp, topical steroids may be used
• Choose a dandruff shampoo with antifungal agents
• Take note that dandruff shampoo containing coal tar increases your scalp's sensitivity to sunlight.

What are the most common scalp problems?

• Excessive hair loss is a hair problem that stems from the scalp. It includes thinning and breaking which can be caused by hair care products, hair dryers and curling irons. Emotional stress and poor nutrition can also cause hair loss.
• Itchiness is another scalp problem commonly experienced by many. This sometimes is caused by dandruff but it could be the result of something more such as an autoimmune disease or bacterial infection. Dandruff is normally the culprit of an itchy scalp. It is caused by the skin cells clumping together because of the oil from the scalp. Dandruff is a result of conditions such as dry skin, an overgrowth of yeast or an irritation caused by hair products.
