My 5-year-old son loves the sun! He gets so excited whenever he plays outdoors. It doesn’t matter whether it’s building sand castles at the beach, skimming stones at the river or running around a park… He loves simply loves the sun! But sometimes I wonder if the sunscreen I use on him is effective enough to protect him from the harmful rays of the sun. Or whether it is safe to apply commercial sunscreen. And so I checked out organic sunscreen.
And then I saw some postings on the different types of sunscreens.
I believe that it is quite important to know the type of sunscreen product you are going to be applying to yourself and your family. And so I made sure I know what are these. Let me share them with you.
The first is a chemical sunscreen.
This contains the main ingredient avobenzone and benzophenone, which absorbs UVA or UVB rays within a specific wavelength. Although it is more common for chemical blockers to only absorb UVB rays, new generation sunscreen products now contain Mexoryl, which can absorb both UVA and UVB radiation.
The second type is physical sunscreen.
As opposed to chemical sunscreen, it acts as a shield and helps to reflect both UVA and UVB light. The main ingredient – titanium dioxide or zinc oxide, is a natural mineral that is friendly on the skin. Although these do not wear off easily, they are more susceptible to washing off when mixed with water or sweat.
I bet the next question you will ask is what are organic sunscreens.
Organic sunscreen is made with certified organic and natural ingredients. It is probably one of the safest and most child-friendly sunscreens available in the market. It is obviously non-chemical based, which makes it safe on skin. But it was even made better with the use of organic ingredients.

After doing my research, I found that organic sunscreen may be the safest option for my children. I feel I can have confidence in the fact that even if my son stays under the sun for an extended period of time, he will be getting the protection he needs without the worry of harsh chemicals penetrating his skin.
