Ways to Speed Up our Morning
We all have those days… It’s the morning, you have pressed snooze twice, you pick up your iphone to find the bus leaves in 15 minutes. Then it’s a mad rush to wash your face, get out of those pyjamas, grab a banana and run out the door. (Usually arriving looking dishevelled and tired – not to mention hungry!). Its days like this you think – I must find a way to optimise my mornings… So here are my tips.
Dry Shampoo
This is basically a waterless shampoo that you spray into greasy roots to extend the life of your hair between washes. It also has the added benefit of smelling amazing and gives my roots a lift. This saves me 20 minutes – washing, drying, and straightening.
Overnight Oats
Take old salsa or jam jars and put them to good use by making your breakfast for a few days in advance. Add ¼ Cup of oats, ¼ cup of frozen blueberries, a teaspoon of peanut butter and some milk (I love almond milk) and pop them into a jar and screw on the lid. The oats will absorb all the delicious juices of the berries and soak up the milk and turn into a delicious peanut butter and jelly flavoured parfait. The best thing is if you are in a rush, the jar will be drip proof so you can easily throw it into your handbag to eat on the bus, in the car, or at your desk. I make 3 at a time (as they usually last 3 days in the fridge before they get too soggy).
BB Cream
Putting on moisturiser, concealer, foundation, powder and illuminator could take you around 10 minutes in the morning. A BB cream will let you short cut these products as it’s an “all in one” to even out your skin tone and give you a lovely glow. It’s perfect if you are travelling light, or need a quick everyday makeup that leaves your complexion looking natural and glowing.
Tint your eyelashes
If you don’t have time to pop mascara on in the morning, tinting your lashes at home is a great way to give definition to the eyes and look instantly more awake. You can buy a kit like the 1000 hours eyelash and brow kit and get around 6 weeks wear from one application. Its pretty easy to do as you apply the dye like mascara, wait 15 minutes, then rinse it off. (It is also perfect for those summer months when you are swimming and want to avoid panda eyes and brows.)
Try keratin straightening
If you are a curly girl like me, taming your morning fro can be a nightmare. Rather than spending 20 minutes on my hair every morning I like to get it keratin straightened every 3 months. Basically it’s a treatment they put in your hair, it takes around 3 hours, and you can’t tie it up or wash it for 3 days. Then after that you get 3 – 4 months of shiny, straight hair. Because your hair is predominantly made of keratin after you get it done it is like having a conditioning treatment and leaves your hair in great condition. Now all I have to do is wash it twice a week with a sodium laureth or lauryl sulphate free shampoo and conditioner, and style it with Moroccan oil.
Pick your outfits for the week on a Sunday
A capsule wardrobe can be a huge time saver during the week, as you can easily throw together clothing options. If you like to look your best every day, but find clothing selection cuts into your morning, try hanging 5 full outfits on your clothes on hangers at the front of your wardrobe… This saves me hours each week.
That’s my basic tips for speeding up your morning. If you have any speed up tips I would love to hear them? I am always keen to hear new beauty tips.
